Yesterday the travel and manufactured spending blogosphere exploded with information about the new cards from American Express. They are called the American Express Everyday and American Express Everyday Preferred. I am not going to go over these two cards in-depth, because it has been done several times. If you want to get more information about these new cards, you can go here, here, here, here, or here. Like I said, this news was blowing up yesterday.

  • 2x points on up to $6,000 in purchases at U.S supermarkets each year
  • 1x points on all other purchases
  • Use your card to make 20 or more purchases in any billing period and you will earn 20% extra points on all those purchases, less returns and credits.
  • Fraud Protection Guarantee, which means you won’t be held responsible for any fraudulent charges when you use your Card.
  • Annual Fee: $0

The perks of the American Express Preferred:

  • Sign-Up Bonus: 15,000 Membership Rewards points when you spend $1,000 within 90 days.
  • 3x points on up to $6,000 in purchases at U.S supermarkets each year
  • 2x points on U.S. standalone gas stations
  • 1x points on all other purchases.
  • Use your card to make 30 or more purchases in any billing period and you will earn 50% extra points on all those purchases, less returns and credits.
  • Other features: The Card will also come with smart chip technology (EMV) and a 0% introductory rate on purchases and balance transfers for the first 15 months.
  • Annual fee: $95

This is big news since you can transfer Membership Rewards points to many travel partners. You can see the transfer partners here. Amex usually offers transfer bonuses which tends to make Membership Rewards better than Ultimate Rewards.

Here is one of the three ads American Express had on the Grammy’s last night starring Tina Fey. You may notice she doesn’t swipe the magnetic strip on the credit card processing machine. I think that is thievery!

Rumor has it that these cards will be released on April 2nd, 2014. Stay Tuned!
