$200 Visa Gift Cards at Meijer

The day has finally come, Meijer added $200 Visa, MasterCard, and American Express gift cards to their gift card rack. This is far from revolutionary, but I’m very excited about it since I have 5 Meijer stores within 15 miles of me. Meijer is a midwest store, so not everyone will benefit from this, but it’s great news if you have one (or more) in your area.
Office Stores Have Sold These Forever, Who Cares?
It’s true Staples, OfficeMax, and Office Depot all sell these $200 gift cards which is great if you have a 5X points card like an Ink Bold/Plus. (If you don’t have a 5X points card, I wouldn’t suggest buying these at office supply stores; Your CPP would be way too high.) What makes this such good news is, Meijer codes as a grocery store – hello, 6% cash back! On top of that, you can purchase these gift cards with Meijer gift cards (see below).
Yes I bought beer, candy, ice cream, and a gift card. It was a tasty night :).
How to Maximize This Deal
The short answer is Portals. Go through a portal to buy Meijer gift cards and earn 2X points + 5% or 6% cash back. Then, go to Meijer and use those Meijer gift cards to buy Visa/MasterCard/Amex gift cards. Meijer gift cards specifically say that they cannot be used to purchase other gift cards, but as you can see above it does work.
Many of the portals below also say they either don’t pay out for gift cards or they pay a lower rate. According to the Frequent Miler Laboratory though, these portals will pay out if you have at least one non gift card item in your order.
Plus if you buy gift cards in bulk online, you get a volume discount!
Let’s say you are buying $5,000 worth of Meijer gift cards with an American Express Blue Cash Preferred through Hilton HHonors portal.

Notes
- I suggest going through the self checkout, since the cashiers could turn you down. The computers are coded to accept gift cards for gift cards, but cashiers tend to know the rules a bit better.
- Start small and work your way up. As with any manufactured spending method, you want to go start slow.
- Be aware that this deal could end at any time. Who knows when or if this deal will end, so don’t hold onto your Meijer gift cards for too long.
