Paypal My Cash CardAs you all know manufactured spending is a great way to travel in luxury for cheap. The only problem is it’s also a great way to lose a lot of money if you’re not careful. That doesn’t happen very often, especially for seasoned MSers, but mistakes can happen and they can hurt financially.

Let me tell you a story…

I happened to be driving past a pharmacy on my way to work, so I figured why not stop in and grab a few Paypal My Cash cards? By a few I mean $1,500 worth, which is not a big deal, since it’s only $11.85 worth of fees. There was a different cashier working than normal and her first response when I came up with the cards was, “Are you paying with debit?” That’s never a good sign, but I responded politely with, “No, I will be using credit. Is there a new policy? Because, I haven’t had any issue using a credit card before.” That seemed to calm the storm. She then rang up the cards and I was on my merry way.

I’ve talked about how important organization is in this game, but I was having an off day and didn’t follow my normal routine. Whenever I buy gift cards or something of value, I try to stuff them between my back seat and the trunk. I figure if someone breaks into my car, they’re far less likely to look back there as they are to look in my glovebox and center console. So, if you ever want to break into my car, you now know where I hide my gift cards ;). On this trip, however, I threw the PP cards underneath my seat. Who knows what brought me to do that.

Fast forward about 9 hours, I remembered I bought Paypal cards and I wanted to apply them to my accounts. I checked my car from top to bottom and could not find the cards. Uh oh… I immediately thought about calling the credit card company to stop the payment, but I didn’t want to go through the hassle until I was completely sure I didn’t have them.

After a few more minutes searching, it clicked! I through the cards underneath the seat, so they have to be there… Nope, they weren’t there either.

At this point I sat back and thought about every step I took that day to determine where on earth those cards could have gone. The only thing I could think of was that they were dropped or someone stole them out of my car. Of course they would’ve had to turn into a slime like material to sneak into my car, because it was locked all day, but Anything was plausible at this point.

I decided to go check my car one more time in hopes of finding them. As I was looking in my center console, I heard a slight crunching noise under my foot. I lifted the floor mat and there they were!

This was the most excited I’ve ever been to hold three flimsy pieces of plastic! I quickly loaded them onto my account and filed them away.

I was very fortunate to find those cards, if I hadn’t I could’ve easily been out $1,500. So, stay organized and don’t make the same mistakes I did!
