Costco and American Express Ending Partnership

Costco has only accepted American Express credit cards in the past (and present) thanks to the 15 year partnership they have had with Amex. Unfortunately, or fortunately depending on how you look at it, that partnership is coming to an end on March 31, 2016 according to American Express.
Costco decided to drop Amex in their Canada stores last year, so it’s no surprise that this is happening in the US as well. Capital One and MasterCard replaced American Express in Canada, but it’s unknown if that will be the case here.
Does this mean the co branded Amex and Costco credit card will disappear? Probably. In fact, it’s likely that American Express will product change that card since it will be useless at Costco stores next year. Only time will tell, though.
